+ - How does IPL hair removal work?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) emits a scattered ray of light from a high energy source. This works to reduce unwanted hair by focusing that intense light on the hair follicles, without damaging the skin in the treatment area. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light energy, converts it into heat which then damages the hair follicle, preventing regrowth (selective thermo-lysis).
Generally, because the laser is attracted to pigment it works well on dark hair, especially if there is a contrast between your hair and your skin colour. If your unwanted hair is dark it can be good to have your laser hair removal work done when your skin is the lightest, such as during winter months.
That said, our world renowned machine - SuperluxPro combines RF and IPL technology to markedly reduce (up to 80%) hair regrowth in the areas treated.
+ - Why Chose IPL over Laser?
Statistics show that, all things being equal, laser and IPL hair removal are about equally effective, but minor side effects are more likely with laser.
Although this depends heavily on your body type, most people find IPL treatments less painful.
Moreover high end IPL devices such as the SuperluxPro give the same if not better results as we can also target the finer hairs, that lasers otherwise may not be able to reach
+ - HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
20 - 30 minute treatment with minimum of 6 - 8 sessions scheduled 4 - 8 weeks apart depending on your treatment area, skin type and hair colour. This helps us coincide with the hair regrowth cycle and achieve the best results. Book in to consult with one of our physicians to discuss your treatment plan.
Usually a course of 6 – 8 treatments is required to achieve optimal result, but once you've completed your treatment cycle, you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only the occasional maintenance treatment. Compare that to the cost and hassle of a lifetime of waxing.
+ - What does it feel like? Is there any downtime?
You will feel a hot sensation throughout the treatment but it is not painful. Your clinician will take care to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
+ - When will i see changes?
You begin to feel tangible results right after the treatment. Positive results are usually reported 2-3 days after the last session and continue to improve for several weeks following the treatments.
We ask all our patient not to remove the hair follicles and let them purge from the skin and fall on their own.
+ - Is it safe?
Most importantly at NovMed Aesthetics Studio our IPL and laser Machine is used by trained Doctors and Nurses only.
No procedure is entirely without risk, but the potential side effects of correctly used IPL hair removal treatments are minimal. They include minor redness and skin irritation or infection. For each patient we patch test treatment area to ensure your skin will tolerate the treatment during your first consult.
+ - Pre-Treatment Information
Day of appointment – avoid applying moisturisers or creams to the treatment area.
One day before – shave the area to be treated.
One week before – avoid using any pharmaceutical products on treatment areas such as photosensitising medications (vitamin A / retinol/ Hydroquinone) or prescription strength exfoliants.
Two weeks before – Avoid fake tanning, sun exposure and ensure that you are wearing sunscreen at all times. Best results are achieved in the winter months when your skin is at it's lightest shade.
Four weeks before – no waxing, epilating or tweezing four weeks prior to appointments as the hair follicle needs to be present for the IPL to be attracted to pigment.
